Today, March 11, we are launching the new season of the Dmitry Zimin Enlightener* and Enlightener.Translation awards. Through May 15 we are accepting applications to compete for the title of the best popular science books in the Russian language, published either on paper or digitally, either written in or translated into Russian. We are also accepting applications for the special award PolitProsvet to be considered by a special selection board.
Applications will be accepted regardless of the country where the book was published or where the author lives. This way, books published in Russia, Ukraine, Belarus, Kazakhstan and other countries with a large Russian-speaking population can compete for victory with the books published on a smaller scale in other countries.
The Enlightener Award is granted annually to the best popular science books written in the Russian language. The jury board of the Enlightener.Translation evaluates the best popular science books translated into the Russian language. The jury board for the special award PolitProsvet chooses the best Russian-language book dedicated to the current social and political events.
To apply for participation, please fill out a form on the award’s website before May 15. The organizing committee only accepts PDF files. According to our rules, paper versions only need to be submitted to the award’s mailing address if you make it onto our long list. The long lists of the awards will be published before June 30; the finalists will be announced before September 30.
Please find more details on how we select our books and who can apply to compete on the Dmitry Zimin’s Enlightener awards website.
*Since its launch in 2008 by Dmitry Zimin, the founder and honorary president of VimpelCom, and by the Dynasty Foundation, a non-profit organization, the Enlightener Prize awards annually to the best non-fiction books in the Russian language. The jury board of the Enlightener.Translation rewards the best nonfiction books translated into Russian, while the jury of the special PolitProsvet award selects the best book dedicated to the current social and political process.
