The Zimin Foundation has announced the results of its Summer Internship Program 2025. The board has selected twelve candidates to receive funding for internships in laboratories around the world specializing in life sciences. The internships last from six weeks to three months, and it was the participants’ responsibility to find laboratories willing to host them.
Altogether, the board received seventeen full applications (one applicant filed for internships at two labs at the same time, both willing to host her). The applications came from Russia, Kazakhstan, Serbia, India, the USA, Spain. Candidates applied for internships of various lengths, from six weeks to six months (with partial external financing). The jury board conducted thirteen interviews, ultimately approving twelve candidates.
Some of the host laboratories willing to accept the Zimin Foundation fellows are the Laboratory of Chromatin Dynamics and Metabolism in Cancer, Institut Gustave Roussy (Villejuif, France), University of Valparaiso (Chile), Hong Kong University, Imperial College London, Okinawa Institute of Science and Technology (OIST), Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory (New York), Institute of Molecular Genetics of the Czech Academy of Sciences, Dynamical Systems Biology lab, Department of Medicine and Life Sciences, Universitat Pompeu Fabra, and others.
All of the candidates conduct research in the field of life sciences with a focus on a wide range of subjects, from pharmacology, biotechnologies and engineering, AI and data science, to silk farming, biochemistry, medical physics, bioinformatics, and more.
The grant covers the cost of an economy return ticket to the host laboratory and living expenses for internships. Participants are responsible for covering all additional costs, including extra expenses for obtaining a visa and bench fees. After the conclusion of the fellowships, awardees will have to submit a detailed scientific report on their experience.
